The Location Scouts

Can't I just do it myself?Yes, you absolutely can. However poor photography and lack of accurate logistical information is the key reason why most self-referrals to agencies don't get booked. Also, we'll make sure that you are signed up to the right agency; there are so many to choose from and in practice only a handful are used by industry professionals.

What happens once I have booked? You will be contacted by us to confirm a mutually agreeable time to visit. On the day, we will take photographs of your property for your portfolio and ask a few questions about the house and the area in general for example parking, noise etc, all of which will go into the report. After the visit, you will receive your images, personalised report and also information on which agency we have signed you up to, along with a link to the listing.

What happens once I'm listed?Once you are listed it's a question of waiting, as it's impossible to say if and when you will get the phone call. Some agencies offer a basic marketing strategy, which involves sending emails to location managers and scouts to help push a new listing or refreshing an old one. But at the end of the day, it's the act of having a location manager or scout spot your listing and thinking it could work for the project, which will trigger the call.

How much money can I make?It depends on the size of your property and the length of the hire. An average sized 3 bed semi achieve around £1000 to £2000 a day, with larger homes commanding more sizeable fees. Often productions will need a day or two to set up and then again to reinstate, which you would ordinarilly charge out at 50% of your agreed day rate. Initial recces are not normally charged. Expect the agency to take a cut of your overall fee - with the average being around 15% to 20%. So for example; on an average sized 3 bed house for a 2 day commercial shoot, with 2 days set up and one day reinstatement, you could be looking at around £5k, less fees. If your property happened to be picked as key location in a drama, you could expect longer or repeat hires and therefore significantly higher fees.
